SPECIAL FUND TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY GROUPS
The Al-Maktoum Institute Community Awards Fund is now up and running with several organisations already benefiting from its existence.
“The purpose of our Awards Fund is to support community groups and charities in Dundee and the surrounding area,” said Institute Principal, Professor Malory Nye.
“We believe it will help many different groups who might not otherwise be able to fulfil their objectives and we look forward to receiving even more applications.”
The Institute’s Community Services Committee – responsible for operating the fund - was set up in June 2008 and decided to work with the Scottish Community Foundation to promote its remit.
The Committee will consider financial support for projects that encompass at least one of the following elements:
- Learning
- Education
- Multiculturalism
- Cultural engagement
- Local schools and other education Institutions
- Youth development
- Interfaith
- Opportunities for the disabled
- Pursuit of achievement
- Excellence over adversity
- Local groups at the grass roots level that enrich the community
It does not consider financial support for projects for which there is current statutory or local authority provision or responsibility for the funding lies at statutory or local authority level; or for political organisations or related political activity, pressure groups or related organisations.
The Fund will primarily focus on projects within Dundee and a 25-mile radius around the city including St Andrews, Perth and Brechin. However, applications for exceptional projects from other parts of Scotland will also be considered.
Anyone wishing to make an application inquiry should ideally make any applications to the Al-Maktoum Institute’s Community Services Committee through the Scottish Community Foundation.
