Honorary Appointments

Honorary Professors

Visiting Scholars play an integral part of the research culture of the Al-Maktoum College. We welcome scholars from many different parts of the world, to join us for a short time each year to participate in teaching, research discussions, and our other activities.

Visiting scholars are appointed in various roles, including Honorary Professors, Honorary Senior Research Fellows, Honorary Research Fellows, and Visiting Scholars.

At present, the Al-Maktoum College has the following Visiting Scholars:

Professor Mohamed Branine

Dundee Business School, University of Abertay, Dundee.

Professor Mohamed Branine is also a member of the Al-Maktoum College Council. He has written extensively on the subjects of International Human Resource Management and Cross-Cultural Management and is the joint editor of the book “Ageism in Work and Employment.” He has earned an international reputation and much of his recent research has focused on the cultural issues facing organisations with operations in the Middle East and China. His contribution to teaching, course preparation and examining at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as supervised research at Masters and Doctoral levels is extensive.

Professor George Donald

The Al-Maktoum College in Dundee has appointed the painter and printmaker, George Donald, currently Keeper of the Royal Scottish Academy Collection, as an Honorary Professor.

George Donald enjoys an international reputation and has exhibited in galleries in the UK and overseas regularly since 1968.

His work can be viewed in prestigious locations such as the V&A in London, the Miro Foundation in Spain as well as the RSA in Edinburgh.

Trained at Edinburgh College of Art and Hornsey College of Art with a post-graduate degree from Edinburgh University, George Donald has been a visiting professor in several countries including the United Arab Emirates and the US.

Born in South India in 1943, he has worked in that country for the British Council as well as Korea. He taught for many years within the D&P School of Edinburgh College of Art (eca), and in 1999 he co-founded the Centre for Continuing Studies at the college – a centre for innovation and excellence in higher art education, and the first to offer part-time BA degrees in visual arts.

He has been a member of the RSA for over 20 years and six years ago was elected Keeper. Recent commissions have included equine portrait paintings for Dubai’s Jockey Club.
