The ambition of the Al-Maktoum College is to achieve University College status as a distinctive, independent and internationally recognised centre for higher education – while continuing to work in partnership with the University of Aberdeen.
The path to becoming the Al-Maktoum University College is based on the development, growth and expansion of international level research and teaching at the Al-Maktoum College as a centre of excellence, promoting intelligent debate and understanding of the broad field of the study of Islam and Muslims.
Through teaching in these areas the College seeks to prepare our students and graduates on contemporary global issues of multiculturalism, leadership, cultural engagement and global awareness, and to be a place of knowledge and reflection on the issues facing a diverse and multicultural world in the twenty-first century. Our focus will continue to be wide, covering an increasing number of subject areas and disciplines that extend organically from our current expertise and interests.
The Al-Maktoum College is proud of our distinctive and innovative role as an independent and privately funded provider of higher education, working in the public sector and for public benefit as a not-for-profit educational charity. We aspire to provide students with the learning opportunities of the highest quality and in a very distinctive context. We are always ready to respond to the changing needs of our global students, and to continue to deliver the highest quality learning environment. A central part of this ambition is to continue our partnership with the University of Aberdeen, and therefore to continue to work to the high academic standards of research, teaching and quality assurance and enhancement that is at the basis of this partnership.
The strategy for the next five years is to put in place the building blocks for our long term aim to become a University College. Through the marketing, growth and recruitment of our existing programmes, the development of new programmes and modes of teaching, and the continued growth and development of our internal organisation and external partnerships, the strategy aims to transform the Al-Maktoum College over the next five years.
By the end of this five-year planning cycle the aim is for the Al-Maktoum College to be in a position for further growth and expansion, and so to be in a position for active planning to achieve University College status by 2020.
