Research Programmes (PhD and MPhil)

We offer opportunities to undertake supervised research in many areas of the study of Islam and Muslims, at Masters (MPhil/MSc) or Doctoral (PhD) level.

Research degrees provide a thorough training in a particular subject through original exploration and experiment.

The Al-Maktoum College offers the following named MPhil/PhD programmes:

  • Bayt al-Maqdis and Jerusalem Studies
  • Multiculturalism
  • Islamic Education
  • Islamic Law

  • Gender and Islam
  • Development, Islam and the Muslim World
  • Practical Ethics and Islam
  • Islamic Ethics

As a research-led college of higher education, the College strives to expand our research culture through appointing high-quality internationally recognised staff, visiting scholars, and research fellows to contribute to our research culture.

RAE/REF
Divinity and Religious Studies at the University of Aberdeen was ranked 1st in the UK in the 2008 RAE.  This means that all staff and students at the Al-Maktoum College are working with a recognised centre of national and international excellence.

FUNDING
The Al-Maktoum College does not offer funding for study or research. Students are required to find their own sources of funding for fees and living expenses. There are, however, a number of organisations which offer support to students, for more information click here
