Management

The Al-Maktoum Institute is a charity registered in Scotland, no SC031415. It is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 26 March 2001. The company was established under a Memorandum of Association, which established the objects and powers of the Institute, and is governed under its Articles of Association.

Board of Directors

The Institute is managed under the authority of the Board of Directors. The directors determine the general policy of the Institute. The Board oversees all matters of the Institute, in particular the management and finances.

The normal day-to-day management of the Institute is delegated to the Senior Management Team, which comprises the Principal, Director of Operations, and the Head of Department.

Academic Advisory Board

The Academic Advisory Board is an advisory group, made up of senior academics and related experts from across the world to be involved with the development and planning of the Institute, looking in particular at the academic work of the Institute.

Institute Council

The Institute Council is an advisory group, made up primarily of community members from Dundee and Scotland. The particular focus of the Institute Council is to help fulfil the Al-Maktoum Institute’s aim to serve the communities, to promote multiculturalism, and to build bridges at the local, national, and international level.

Executive committee: Academic Council

The Academic Council is an executive committee, which is responsible for all academic matters of the Institute – the core work of the Institute. The Academic Council is made up of members of staff of the Institute, honorary professors, and a representative of the University of Aberdeen. The Council looks at the day-to-day running of the Institute, as well as future planning and development. The Academic Council has a structure of committees and sub-committees overseeing the various elements of the Institute’s academic activities.
