Churches Agency for Inter-Faith Relations in Scotland Meeting

The Al-Maktoum Institute this week (Wednesday, May 4) hosted a meeting of the Churches Agency for Inter- Faith Relations in Scotland (CAIRS.) for the first time.

CAIRS was set up in 1995 as part of the shared commitment of the Christian Churches to dialogue with the other faith communities with whom we live. CAIRS aims to promote good relations between people of different faiths in Scotland by:

  • Making Christians aware of the presence, beliefs and practices of the faith communities around them
  • Encouraging mutual respect and appreciation
  • Promoting inter faith dialogue
  • Helping all to benefit from the riches to be found in all religious traditions

Institute Principal, Professor Malory Nye said: “We are delighted the Institute was the setting for this CAIRS meeting. I have been pleased to welcome them for the first time.

“Here at the Institute, we promote multiculturalism, peaceful co-existence, tolerance and our students learn that people from all backgrounds need to understand each other.

“CAIRS’ aims form an important part of the debate involving people of different faiths.”
