INSTITUTE PATRON AWARDED HIGHEST HONOUR
BY ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS OF ENGLAND
The Patron and Sponsor of the Al-Maktoum Institute, His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and UAE Minister of Finance, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
The Fellowship is the highest accolade that can be awarded by the College and is held by some of the most distinguished surgeons in the world, as well as by senior members of the British Royal Family, including Her Majesty The Queen.
HH Shaikh Hamdan received the distinction for his longstanding commitment to surgical and medical service delivery in the UAE, and his ongoing commitment to advancing medical education in the region through international collaborations with the UK.
“It is my honour and pleasure to award the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England to His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al- Maktoum,” said President of the RCS, John Black, at the recent award ceremony in Dubai.
“It is extremely rare that this award is given by the College to any individual.
“His Highness has played a significant role in rapidly developing the emirate’s health service over the past three decades, both in terms of setting up the world class service we see today, and in supporting the ongoing teaching and training needs of clinical staff. It is therefore fitting that he be awarded the Fellowship.”
Shaikh Hamdan expressed appreciation to RCS, saying that he was proud to be honoured by the world’s most prominent medical institution.
