Mr A.G. Abubaker, Director of Operations and Institute Board member, attended a three-day conference in Libya while Dr Alhagi Manta Drammeh, Head of Department, travelled to Malaysia for the events that were organised by the British Council.
“The exhibition in Libya was attended by around 40 Higher Education establishments from the UK so it was important, in profile terms, for the Institute to be represented,” said Mr Abubaker. “It was interesting to speak with representatives from other seats of learning who were clearly keen to hear about the work we are doing here in Dundee. It was a very worthwhile exercise going there and I hope some benefits for the Institute will emerge in due course.”
And Dr Alhagi echoed these views. “At the Malaysian event, I had the chance to outline our work and the way our range of courses benefit students,” he said. “It was a very positive experience and I am sure the Institute can build further on the links and contacts made.”
Of course, the Institute already has good relations in Libya and Malaysia and a number of students from both countries have studied in Dundee. Principal, Professor Malory Nye said he was pleased by the feedback from both visits. “We will be extremely pleased if more students come here to study with us as a result of our attendances at these exhibitions, which are excellent forums for discussion and exchanging information,” said Professor Nye.
