A prominent local businessman, a university professor, an ex-teacher and a former student have been appointed to the Council of Dundee’s Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies.
The appointment of Ibrahim Okhai, owner of Medea International Ltd, Professor Mohammed Branine of Abertay University, David Bone of the Scotland/Malawi Partnership, who taught at the city’s Morgan Academy and the Rev Andrew Richardson, the Dundee University Anglican Chaplain and former Institute student, was confirmed at the weekend.
“The Institute is expanding in a number of ways and we are delighted to welcome all four to serve on the Council and to be involved in the future, exciting work we have planned,” said the Institute Chancellor, Lord Elder. “One of the roles of the Institute Council is to build and maintain constructive relationships with the local community. It is clear that these new Council members can help significantly, given their experience and professionalism in different walks of life allied to their unswerving commitment to Dundee and the local community. Their input and ideas are certain to benefit both the Institute and its excellent links with the community.”
