Founding Principal of Scotland’s Al-Maktoum Institute Receives Special Award for Innovation

At the peak of its fifth anniversary celebration, Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi, the Founding Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Scotland’s Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, has received a “Special Award for Innovation” for “Setting the New Agenda for Cultural Engagement” through his key role in establishing Al-Maktoum Institute in Scotland in the last seven years: 2000-2007.

Lord Elder, the Al-Maktoum Institute Chancellor, presented Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi with the Award last night Friday (11May 2007) at a 5th Anniversary dinner, attended by about 100 prominent individuals from Dundee and Scotland.

Professor El-Awaisi, who is a leading advocate of multiculturalism as the only way to beat extremism, launched his recent book on “Setting the New Agenda for Cultural Engagement” last week as part of the 5th anniversary celebrations.
