As part of Dundee City Council’s commitment to building partnerships with all Higher and Further Education institutions in Dundee, the Social Work Department will sign a Memorandum of Understanding today (January 11) with the Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies.
The Social Work Department recognises the role of the Institute in helping to develop an awareness and understanding of matters related to multiculturalism, Islam and Muslims in the context of Scotland and the wider world.
Today’s signing of the joint Memorandum of Understanding will bring valuable opportunities for social work staff and stakeholders.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Social Work Convener Baillie Helen Wright said: “Our partnership with the Al-Maktoum Institute recognises the unique and important role that the Institute’s work has here in Dundee and further afield. The Institute’s commitment to working in partnership with local communities is helping to promote a greater understanding of multiculturalism. I hope that the Memorandum of Understanding we are signing today will build a further bridge to greater understanding of multiculturalism locally and enhance the role of the Institute as a place of learning and academic excellence in Dundee.”
Baillie Wright, who is a member of the Council of the Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies added:”I am very pleased that the Social Work Department is playing its part in translating the Institute’s multicultural vision into practice at a local community level.”
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi said: “The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding today with the Social Work Department is another example of our commitment to the citizens of multicultural Dundee. We look forward to building upon the early initiative with the Social Work Department to establish and develop links with staff and services in Dundee and to strengthening the relationship between the Social Work Department and the Institute.”
