A major international symposium for members of the Islamic Universities League was held in the Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies for the first time on the 17 and 18th March 2004.
Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi, principal of the Institute said: “It is a tremendous honour for us to be asked to organise such an important event.We were delighted to be granted membership of the League and are the only educational establishment in the UK to achieve such recognition”.
Professor Jafaar Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Islamic Universities League led the delegation of academics that included representatives from Egypt, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.
During their two-day visit they discussed Britain and Eygpt and the development of Islamic Studies in Islamic Universities.
