Every year, Al-Maktoum Institute invites and expects all its students, whether residents or not, to attend a three-day research seminar during the summer.
The workshop is organised for the benefit of postgraduate students. In this workshop, members of academic staff present and discuss related and important research issues in Arabic and Islamic Studies. The workshop ensures that both staff and students are up-to-date with recent and important developments in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
The event of 2003 was held on 18-20 June and was an unrivalled success! During the workshops, two external scholars will present their papers in this year’s workshop – Dr Hussein Abdul-Raof from Leeds University and Dr Jabal Buaben from University of Birmingham. Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi, Professor Malory Nye, Dr Abbas Ridha and Dr JP Larsson also gave presentations. Additionally, Dr Michael Owen of Zayed University briefly attended the workshop and all students and academic staff had the opportunity to meet with him.
A day and a half was allocated for the paper presentations workshop by the Institute’s postgraduate students and during this period, all our research students presented findings from their own research. We look forward to next year’s summer workshop!
